Singapore - BMW i8 gets the title as Car of the Year from Singapore's leading media, The Straits Times. The hybrid Sportcar gets 275 points, beating the existing BMW 7 Series in second place with 236 points.
In Singapore, this model was first launched in late November last year. The assessment itself is limited only by the model launched since mid-November 2015 until the same period this year.
"The BMW i8 deserves to be Car of the Year 2015 because it has an elusive X factor, as well as everything you want in a sports car - looks and performance," says Lynn Tan, one of the judges.
Meanwhile, according to another jury, Jeremy Chua, i8 won not only fast and exotic, but also is suitable for `PlayStation generation '. "It makes me feel older," he says.
The selection of winners is done by voting system. The judges assessed nine attributes of the car, among them are performance, efficiency, styling, and factor X. Five points maximum can be given to one attribute of each car.
This is not the first award this model gets in 2015. Previously, in April last BMW i8 won the World Green Car of the Year award at the New York Auto Show 2015.
In addition, cars entering Indonesia through general importers are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-cylinder engine and a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. This model consumes only 2.1 liters of fuel to travel a distance of up to 100 km.
